Kelly Paul Williams

Practical growing knowledge shaped by hands-on work, experimentation, and problem-solving.

About Kelly

Kelly Paul Williams is a master carpenter, gardener, and longtime hands-on problem solver with experience building and working with growing systems from traditional gardens to hydroponics.

Kelly served as a Master Gardener volunteer with the Carroll County Extension Office in 2020–2021, with a particular interest in hydroponic growing. His experience with hydroponics grew well beyond using commercial systems. He built and experimented with his own systems, including aerated and mist-based approaches designed around the plant's root environment.

That combination of gardening, building, experimentation, and practical problem-solving helped shape the philosophy behind the Comprehensive Plant Journal.

Why the journal exists

Rather than asking growers to blindly follow recipes, the journal encourages them to understand what is happening in their own garden:

OBSERVE → THINK → CHANGE → WATCH → RECORD

The goal is simple: help growers—from someone planting for the first time to someone with years of experience—make better decisions by combining sound growing principles with careful observation and a useful record of what actually happened.
